Judy's Personal Profile
Judy Kelly has been training horses and riders for
over 20 years. She manages and teaches at Topline Dressage in
Clarkston, Michigan where she lives with her husband, Sean.
Her biggest accomplishment in the show arena was
placing 5th in the selection trials for the Pan Am Games in 1979 with a
horse named “The Maestro”. Judy was invited to England to compete at
Goodwood, however was unable to due to a lack of funding. She was
National Junior Champion on another horse in 1977 and also won the
Regional Finals that same year at 1st and 2nd level.
Judy has been
a professional dressage instructor since 1981, working her way up the
ladder to take a horse back to international competition. She has won
numerous local and national awards in the last 20 years. Judy has
successfully completed horses through Intermediate I. She was invited to
ride at Gladstone (the United States Equestrian Team Headquarters) in the
Intermediare I Championships in 1999.
In the year 2000
she was named to the USET Dressage Developing Riders List and earned
USDF bronze and silver medals in addition to winning the Region II
Training Level Championship with a client's horse and also the Region II
First Level Championships with her own horse.
Judy has trained with Steffen Peters, the 1996 team
bronze medalist from the Atlanta Olympics. She has also trained with
Christine Traurig, the 2000 team bronze medalist from the Sydney
Olympics. Furthermore she has worked with Guenter Seidel, the 1996 and
2000 team bronze medalist in a developing rider clinic sponsored by the
United States Equestrian Team, as well as Betsy Steiner, who in 1990 was
on the World Championship Team.
